AI Affiliate Clicks Not Tracking? How to Find and Fix the Break

Key takeaways
- Always start with the raw tracking link in a private window. If it works, something in front of it is the problem.
- Shorteners, redirect plugins, link cloakers and in-app browsers cause most missing clicks.
- Add your layers back one at a time until the click disappears. That layer is the culprit.
- If nothing works, send support the exact link, the time of your test click and a screenshot.
You published a link, people clicked it and your dashboard shows nothing. Or it shows far fewer clicks than your own analytics. Missing clicks are frustrating, but they are almost always fixable, and the cause is usually something sitting between your visitor and the tracking link. The examples use links to our AI apps, Sugarlab AI and SpiceStars AI, but every check works for any AI adult offer.
This guide gives you a calm, ordered way to find the break: first prove the link works, then add each layer back until you find the one that drops the click.
| What you see | Most likely cause |
|---|---|
| Zero clicks on a brand-new link | Link copied wrong or never actually published |
| Your analytics shows visits, dashboard shows none | Something strips the tracking parameters |
| Clicks on desktop, none from phones | In-app browser or mobile redirect issue |
| Clicks recorded but no sub-ID values | Labels added incorrectly or removed by a plugin |
| Clicks dropped after a site update | A plugin, cache or theme change |
| Clicks fine, but sales on an old tier rate | Link built on your previous tier's offer |
Copy the link fresh from the link generator in your dashboard, not from your site.
- Open a private or incognito window.
- Paste the link and press enter.
- Confirm you land on the correct app and landing page.
- Wait a few minutes and check your click report.
If the click appears, the link itself works. The problem is somewhere between your placement and the link. If it doesn't appear after ten minutes, compare the link character by character with a fresh copy, and try a different browser.
Quick check: a missing &, a space at the end or a smart quote pasted from a document can all break a link silently.
List every layer between the visitor and the tracking link:
- A link shortener.
- A redirect or "pretty link" plugin on your site.
- A link cloaker or affiliate link manager.
- A tracker redirect for paid traffic.
- A link-in-bio tool.
- A CDN or caching rule that rewrites URLs.
Now test each layer by itself, in order, from closest to the tracking link outward. The first layer where the click disappears is the culprit.
Link shorteners
Some shorteners drop query strings or add their own redirects. Fix: remove the shortener, or use one that preserves the full URL, and test again.
Redirect and cloaking plugins
WordPress-style redirect plugins can strip parameters or cache old destinations. Fix: enable parameter forwarding in the plugin settings, clear the plugin cache, or link directly.
Tracker redirects
If your tracker sends visitors to the offer, check that the offer URL in the tracker includes your full tracking link and that macros resolve to real values.
In-app browsers
Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Telegram and others open links in their own browsers. Some handle redirects differently. Fix: test inside each app on a real phone, and use a simple bridge page if direct links misbehave.
Encoding problems
Spaces, ampersands and special characters inside sub values break links. Fix: use only lowercase letters, numbers and dashes in labels, and build links in the generator rather than by hand.
Direct links and blockers
Direct links rely on a script on the landing page. Strict ad blockers or privacy settings can stop it. Fix: use redirect links for traffic where blocking is common.
Caching and CDN rules
A cache can serve an old version of your page with an old link. Fix: purge the cache after changing links and check the live page source.
You don't need special software. Three free tools cover almost every case:
- Browser developer tools. Open the network tab, click your link and watch each redirect. You can see exactly where parameters disappear.
- A redirect checker. Online tools show every hop between your link and the final page, including status codes.
- View page source. Search your live page for the tracking link to confirm the published version is the one you expect, not a cached or rewritten copy.
Tip: in the network tab, look for the request to the tracking domain. If it never appears, the click never reached the tracking system and the problem is entirely on your side of the path.
If clicks appear but sub-IDs are empty or wrong:
- Confirm the labels are in the right fields, such as
source_idandsub1, not invented parameter names. - Check that a plugin isn't rewriting or removing parameters.
- For paid traffic, check that macros like
{clickid}resolve to values and don't arrive as literal text.
Sometimes the tracking is fine and the test isn't. Common traps:
- Testing while logged in to accounts or with cached cookies, which can change redirects.
- Clicking the same link many times in a row, which some systems filter as duplicates.
- Checking the report too soon, before the click has been processed.
- Looking at the wrong date range or time zone in your report.
Use a fresh private window, click once, wait a few minutes and check today's date in the correct time zone.
Each tier has its own offer. Links built before a tier upgrade keep tracking, but on the old offer. If you upgraded to VIP or PRO, build new links on your new tier's offer and replace the old ones.
Most adult traffic is mobile, so test there:
- Send the link to your phone through the same app your visitors use.
- Tap it inside the app, not after copying it to a browser.
- Confirm the landing page loads quickly and fully.
- Check for the click in your report.
If desktop works and mobile doesn't, the in-app browser or a mobile-only redirect is the likely cause.
| Platform | Common issue | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit app | Links opened in the in-app browser | Test from the app, link to a bridge page |
| X | Links wrapped by the platform's shortener | Usually fine, but test the full path |
| Discord | Embeds and link previews | Test clicks from mobile and desktop clients |
| Telegram | In-app browser and previews | Test with previews on and off |
| Instagram and TikTok | Bio link opened in-app | Use a fast bridge page with tracked buttons |
Example: an affiliate sees 900 visits to a review page in their analytics but only 40 clicks in the dashboard, and the review has a big "Try it" button.
- The raw link works in a private window, so the link is fine.
- View source shows the button points to a pretty-link plugin URL, not the tracking link.
- Testing the plugin URL alone shows the click arrives, but without any sub-IDs.
- The plugin has parameter forwarding switched off. Switching it on brings sub-IDs back.
- Clicks still look low, so the affiliate checks the button on a phone and finds it is hidden below a sticky banner on small screens.
Two fixes, one in the plugin and one in the layout, and clicks rise to a normal level. Most cases look like this: more than one small problem, each easy to fix once found.
Some loss between your analytics and the affiliate dashboard is normal:
- Analytics counts page views; the affiliate platform counts clicks on the link.
- Bots and prefetching inflate some counts and not others.
- Visitors who close the page during a redirect never reach the tracking domain.
A gap of a few percent is expected. A gap of 20% or more is worth investigating with the steps above.
If you have tested everything and clicks still vanish, contact support with:
- The exact link you published, copied from the live page.
- Where it is placed and how visitors reach it.
- The date and time of a test click, with your time zone.
- A screenshot of the click report filtered to that time.
- Any shortener, plugin or tracker in the path.
That information usually lets the team find the problem in one reply instead of five. PRO affiliates can send it straight to their Telegram account manager.
- Raw link fails in a private window? Rebuild it in the generator. If a fresh link also fails, contact support.
- Raw link works, placement fails? Remove layers one at a time until it works. Fix or replace the layer.
- Desktop works, mobile fails? Test inside the app your visitors use, then add a bridge page.
- Clicks arrive without labels? Check field names and plugin parameter settings.
- Clicks fine, sales on old rates? Rebuild links on your current tier's offer.
- Build every link in the generator.
- Keep a link sheet with where each link lives.
- Test every new link on desktop and on a phone before publishing.
- Re-test key links after any site, plugin or theme update.
- Avoid unnecessary layers in front of tracking links.
